K-1 Visa, Interview, St Luke’s Medical Experience.
Hi! I am Yulie Sullivan. I’m here to share my experience on K-1 Visa processing and interview in Manila embassy, I am currently living in U,S now. After the nightmare of long process on K-1 Visa, I know most of you guys is stressed too about this steps-by- steps processing. You think it ends only in Manila, well guess what? Nope!
The K1 Visa processing nightmare never ends until you get here in U,S but I can say it’s less stress once you have finally made it to the United States of America.
I know what it feels like though when your in the middle of all this processing. You have mixed feelings of excitement, nervousness, but also happy because we have found our true love.
I am going to give you some advise, tips and share my experience on K-1 Visa processing and the interview process. I also have provided you with a K-1, K-2 Visa Checklist of Things To Do. Just be true and confident that you can get through all of these challenges on your way to be with your love ones. I would recommend you to include God with you on your way to your destination.
I know some of us is independent already, but most of us Filipino’s are use to being with our friends, family, uncle’s and aunties. However, once you get here in U,S I want you guys to be prepared about home sickness, as in United States is very different. There are not nearly many people living close together like the Philippines has. But no worries I am here almost two years, and actually I love it here. I like the nature and friendly people just like our country. Also another thing, here in U,S they have different types of vegetables and fruits and many other foods that you aren’t used to.
Some of the cities has Asian markets and some don’t. So if you want to make your Filipino dish you have to do some experimentation on what ingredients your going to use for cooking. I would love to give you tips about cooking in U,S ingredients in future posts – hehe.
K1 Visa Interview in Manila U,S Embassy Tips
- During your interview just be honest. And answer the question loudly and clearly.
- Wear formal attire during your interview, something loose clothes.
- Arrive at the Manila embassy early because of the traffic and long lines.
- NO phone,NO electronic devices ,or USB, leave your phone in your hotel or apartment. Because you cannot bring it inside the US embassy during your interview. You really don’t have a safe place to keep your phone outside the embassy and I don’t think its best idea to leave your phone to some strange person standing outside the embassy because you probably won’t see it again!
- Make sure you have colored passport size 2×2 picture with you with white background, bring 6 or 8 pieces with you during your interview
- Make sure you have all the documents required for the interview, make sure to photocopy all the required documents
- Make sure your ds-160 is look like the picture below you need to have 2 barcode one up and one from the bottom, us embassy wont accept only 1 barcode, so review your documents. I saw a girl who only had one bar code on this paper and she had to leave!
- Just answer the question eye to eye like you don’t feel nervous at all

What To Expect About the Medical Exam in St Luke’s
My experience about my medical in St. Luke’s, Manila was not good at all, Because everything went very healthy, and negative except for my x-ray. There was a white shadow (which is common) so they had to check for Tuberculosis.
Note : The St. Lukes that you want to go to in Manila for the U.S. embassy is located in Ermita.
So I had to go on sputum culture for 3 days, every morning you have to go back to st luke’s without food or drink and produce more sputum for them (yuck!). You will also have to wear a mask inside St. Lukes.
After your 3 days sputum, your going to wait for 5-7 days for your pulmonary check, If your positive they are going to treat you for 3 months to 6 months.
If your pulmonary is negative, then you to wait for two month for your sputum culture result, They told me to not call them first, before my sputum culture result. If you don’t hear from them, this is good news!
They said once they call me first before my sputum result that means its bad news. So everyday i am terrified and nervous everyday, Every time my phone rang I am scared or nervous,
But the good news is i waited for two months and 7 days. Then I call them but no one answer, Then I just emailed them and they answered and told me to go back to st luke’s for my vaccination. I am so happy! I went to st luke’s to get my vaccination done and then the next day i had my results!
By the way if had to do the sputum exam, you will only be given a piece of paper that you have passed. You wont have a brown envelope that contain’s your remaining documents. St Luke’s will be the one to forward the result to the U,S Embassy so no worries.
Thank you and hope this will help you to get through your K-1 Visa processing and medical exam.
